Your Lava Expedition covers everything that makes Hawai`i Island unique. Meet us at the KapohoKine Adventures store to check in before heading out to the Kilauea volcano. Enjoy a picnic-style supper before getting geared up for the hike over the lava fields of the Kilauea volcano in search of active lava flows.
No neck, back or knee injuries. Closed toe shoes are required. Must be able to navigate stairs and navigate across uneven terrain while carrying 15 pounds. Participants must be physically fit. Hike is more than 1 hour each way, more than 2 hours total hiking. Lava cannot be guaranteed due to natural changes in the volcanic activity. This tour does not visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Moderate air temperatures at sea level with cooler temperatures at higher elevations, occasional rain showers, extensive hiking across loose, uneven, rocky terrain including the recent black lava flows, tour locations created just for KapohoKine Adventures’ guests, red lava cannot be guaranteed on this tour
Comfortable clothes (long pants and long-sleeved shirt recommended but not required), light jacket or sweater, sunglasses and hat, comfortable closed-toe shoes are required (sandals and flip-flops or “slippahs” will not be accepted)
Military-grade LED flashlights and headlights, umbrellas, walking sticks, camera tripod to share, mosquito repellant, sunblock, snacks and beverages (water, juice, soda) all day, picnic-style supper (dietary requirements and restrictions accommodated on request with advance notice), daypack for use while hiking, all entrance fees and access to private locations
